Rek and I were looking for a way for characters in Wiktopher to communicate by whistling, and decided on choosing Solresol as the ideal #conlang to use for this specific part of the story. I ended up spending the better part of this week learning enough about it so I could translate a few poems and songs for the book. I've collected a bunch of (extremely COLORFUL) notes from all over at:

@maleza *is working on a dictionary rom for rek* haha

Helvetica Blanc

@neauoire I had never heard of this and yet was absolutely working on something similar for my Nōr.

Mine even has the same "reversible meaning" bit. 😮

(That said, Nōr can speak in chords and have a much simpler vocabulary, but still, that's a wild convergence!)

@neauoire @rek at first glance this reminds me of “drafts” in the old ~1992 game “Loom”! ^_^

@neauoire Conlangs are fascinating. Every so often I read about a particular one and they are fun rabbit holes! Which one is your "favorite"? Toki pona? I know they are used in different context but... which one do you like the most and why?

Devine Lu Linvega

@h3rald Mhmm that's a good question. I like Bolak because of how regular it is, the languages of the logopandescision because of the context around it and the book is beautiful. I like Bliss symbols because the story is so sad, and Ithkuil too because it pushes density to the max. I love the accessibility considerations in its design. I love Xoox Oxxo's music and the conlang they made for it. I like Yoko Kanno's made up languages too.

Ever seen?

@neauoire and that's a post to bookmark for later, thanks!

I did come across your Lietal page before (I *think* did go through most of your site but keep finding new pages I overlooked, plus it keeps growing!)... so you created it originally for a game? But how far did you take it. Do you actually speak/write in it?

Devine Lu Linvega

@h3rald I've embeded the language in games and also in drawings, it's part of the Neauismetica. I've translated the book Thousand Rooms in it, and I've written albums about it too.

@neauoire In David Walton's sci-fi book "The Genius Plague", people infected by a fungus also use a whistling language.

hi waporwave!

@neauoire I've thought for a while about a whistling conlang, but I think that recognizing specific notes is maybe not something everyone can do? I thought maybe low mid high would be very easy for most, but probably too small for anything more than a few code word calls. Maybe there's a middle ground between ease of use and usefulness? In any case I think frequency based instead of note name is more reliable so that there aren't duplicates

Devine Lu Linvega

@waporwave I've listed the frequencies under Accessibility on the Solresol page, there are other options listed in there to communicate with folks who could not discern the pitches.
