@inkscape finally, somebody used my favourite word nobody knows lol... Interoperability!

@inkscape I am using Inkscape to create scientific posters (especially useful for schematic drawings in a vector format), and scientific talks in LibreOffice - and I often need to convert/move stuff from one to the other.
For mathematical formulas, Inkscape uses LateX (in the Mathink extension), while LibreOffice has a slightly different syntax for formulas. Would be cool to make this compatible to be able to just copy plain formula text from one to the other!

@inkscape fantastic seeing free software create synergy :occasion_flare: :occasion_star_award: :occasion_party:

@inkscape integration of a tool to create pie chart and other form of chart from data.
(like what some old extension like NiceChart was doing, or command line tools like SVG charter).

@inkscape Scientific typography support. I still use an old @gnu_texmacs Inkscape extension to get math equations into and out of Inkscape and I realize TeXmacs isn't Libreoffice, but the need to manipulate equations sometimes pops up in SVGs I'd like to upload to #WikimediaCommons.

Don't know if that is possible, but I would welcome if the svg is part of the ODF Standard and could guarantee 100% compatibility

@inkscape not related to LibreOffice, but it would be pretty neat if #blender3d could read native inkscape files, including layers and groups. Skipping the export to svg part would help a lot for motion graphics stuff :inkscape: :blender:

@julper @inkscape
and Blender compatible shortcuts in the interface!

Simon Rosenqvist

@julper @inkscape yes! Would love to see better integration between Inkscape and blender.

@inkscape I guess I've never used the two together. I use Inkscape quite a lot! I use LibreOffice occasionally, but never have the two met.

@inkscape Great! Is it possible that Inkscape could help style prettier charts on Calc and tables on Writer?

@inkscape

Wouldn't it make sense to include Scribus in the question?

I use #inkscape #layers show/hide in order to create #overlays both for #TexLatex #Beamer class and (occasionally) for #LibreOffice #impress.

The part which is not convenient is that, if I edit sthg, I need to re-export all the layer combinations into each of the files that are included. And, with Impress, to re-import each of them. (And by the way, to remember the file names I've used for such or such combination).

Example use: a schematic with/without captions.

I'd love having an #Inkscape interface that:
- remembers what layer combination goes into what file (something I can script... but won't in general),
- and can regenerate all the exported PDF files in one go, or, better, generate a multipage PDF with them.

For #TexLatex #beamer, inkscape could also upojn request generate the inclusion code needed with a given range of overlay numbers.

#Latex (recommended use: #TexLatex to avoid confusion)

For #libreOffice #Impress, what'd be great is that, when importing a multipage PDF, it would automatically duplicate the current slide into as many slides as PDF pages, and import successive pages as images into each of them.

@jocelyn_etienne @Mina @inkscape that sounds like a great idea for a little #libreoffice extension, or cmdline tool. there's lpod-python or #odf-toolkit for #ODF file manip, and for pdf page extraction, there's tons of existing code. #weekend #hack anyone? :)

@thb @inkscape

I guess one caveat is the resizing of the imported content: if resize is done after the import, which afaik is the usual workflow in #libreoffice, then it needs to be repeated for each and every imported image on differnt slides... probably even worse than manual duplication+image replacement.
Not sure wha'ts the best #ux solution to that, maybe actually a right-click option on an imported image, already there and resized, which would offer "Import the other pages from PDF"?

* For SVGs in #LibreOffice (LO), I miss the option to "edit in external software (i.e. Inkscape), like it exists for pixel graphics. Same for LO drawing objects!
* The creation of flow charts in LO Draw is much quicker than in Inkscape. I wished that Inkscape can import/export LO Draw .odg files (and it's important to preserve connectors correctly)
* The rendering of #Inkscape SVGs in LO is sometimes bad, so that I sometimes have to use .png (or via ex-/imported pdf) to make it work.

@inkscape
I dont use them together.

I had a dream : multi pages in inkscape -> you did it !

So... next dream : an improvement of the layers management (merging/spliting layers between pages... like Macromedia Flash did with frames and layers) ! 😋 😘

@inkscape
Not related directly, but textboxes in Inkscape need improvement. It's hard to format parts of the textbox (It tends to format the whole box instead). Typing in Arabic is also horrible (alignment, justification, and other stuff).
