⚡ Introducing Channels, a new way to engage your audience, inspired by Telegram

We've never launched a new feature on iOS first, and are looking forward to bringing this to Android and web clients

Channels will be rolling out to TestFlight users over the next few days, admins should keep an eye on the server repo 👀

@pixelfed for those who don't use telegram, what is it?

@royal @pixelfed I suppose it's something to help transform a social network (among peers) into a broadcast tool (one to many) for celebrities. And since it's first targeting iOS users, it looks likely.

In Telegram, It's something like a group, but only admins can send posts in it. Other's are only viewers.
It could be like a simple blog.
Every user can be admin in multiple channels, and every channel can have multiple admins, too.

@royal @pixelfed I don't know how it will look in Pixelfed, images-first social network.

As of Telegram, channels are chats, which you can subscribe to and read what channel author posts. If enabled, channels can have comments under each post to gather feedback, and reactions.

@pixelfed how can we get access to the iOS app?

@pixelfed I guess you're pulling off Instagrammy behavior now by having an iOS-first feature. Why is it iOS-first?
And being intentionally vague on what this does too, good job guys
