@organicmaps is really amazing for traveling via bicycle. It's insane how battery-efficient offline maps are. Keep the app in the foreground, but with the phone to sleep. Disable 4G, only wake it up when directions are needed, and the battery can easily last two days, even with another background app tasked with recording a GPX trace.

@sgued @organicmaps i had the following issue with osmand while touring: it prevent the phone from going to sleep if the app is open.

Do you experience the same with organice?

@rholb @organicmaps

Not sure what is the issue you mentioned.

What I did was open the app with the route. Then manually put the phone to sleep with the power button. When I needed direction I just woke it up with the power button again and put it back to sleep once I passed the intersection.

I didn't even need to unlock the phone to see the maps.

My issues is that osmand prevent the phone going to deep sleep consequently draining the battery (my phone is a bit old, I would loose 30-40% over an hour).

From the behavior that you describe (not having to unlock) organice seems to do the same but your device seems less affected.

I'll test that :)

@rholb it's Organic Maps, not organice.
I see not having to unlock as a must-have feature.

Regarding deep sleep I don't know exactly but my observations are that the battery drained really slowly. Note that I deactivated Wifi and mobile data, (basically activating airplane mode), which avoids having the phone try to connect to antennas which drains battery for nothing.

I still had a background application that recorded the GPX of the trip (basicairdata.eu/projects/andro).

@rholb @sgued Isn't there an option in OM settings for auto-locking the Android device?

Soso

@organicmaps @rholb

I see two options "Autoriser l'écran à se mettre en veille" (authorize the screen to go to sleep) and "Afficher sur l'écran de vérrouillage" (Show on the unlock screen).

@organicmaps @sgued I cannot find it on osmand. Found options on your app :)
