just checked Firefox (iOS) settings and saw that this "studies" bullshit tracking they are doing was turned back on. I definitely had this turned off ages ago and they automatically turned it back on via an update

"So even though a telemetry-disabling user explicitly tells Mozilla that they don’t want to “Allow Firefox to install and run studies,” Mozilla goes ahead and runs a study on telemetry coverage using their system add-on."

@liaizon yeah, this is the dark side of the "Chrome is bring evil, just use Firefox" situation - Mozilla had a weird takeover in 2020ish where they had a "pivot to profitability" and now they're bloated as shit and do stuff like this. it's not quite Google level I'd say but it's pretty shitty

FWIW, forks like Fennec and LibreWolf disable this outright, and on iOS every browser internally has to use Safari's internal rendering engine(? unless that's changed) so I'm not sure it matters there

@liaizon @twpol This is a blog of over the years old. Is it still relevant???

@marco @twpol I was posting links about how they have been abusing the Studies feature for years after seeing that they turned it back on for me even tho I had turned it off
