staying in the old medina in fes, morocco is perhaps the closest i have ever been to feeling like i am in a fantasy rpg fortress town in real life

it’s such a tightly packed maze inside that gps barely works and you have to sometimes rely on locals to show you the way

view of the old Medina in fes Morocco from a terrace. many old buildings, some in the foreground are in ruins with plants growing inside
tight alleyway in fes. Cobbled streets and very old white walls
alleyway in fes, empty except for a horse with a blanket looking away.

found an article about this neighborhood-

“Fes-al-Bali, the larger of the two medinas of Fes, is a nearly intact medieval city. With a 2002 population of 156,000, it is probably the largest contiguous carfree area in the world today.”
