@gamingonlinux really 6.36% desktop share for Linux overall when you factor in ChromeOS :) And I really know people like to say it's not Linux, and whilst I will concede that it is not typical it is based on the Linux kernel, which is the core component of any Linux-based operating system and thus IMHO Linux.

@gamingonlinux I know :) I just wanted it to go on record here too :D

FWIW, I'm using three machines right now. One MacOS, one ChromeOS, and one Pop!_OS... Anout to turn on a Steam Deck to download something too ;)

@testman @gamingonlinux My main reservation with ChromeOS is that it is a Google product and we know they have a history of abandoning things seemingly out of nowhere.

That means Linux gaming is actually lagging behind in respect to Linux desktop in general? Impressive

I guess many Linux users still fire up windows for gaming, especially if the game in question does not easily run under your favorite Wine flavour.

The underlying reality on the data is more complicated than that, although with no source it's hard to figure out how.

But just to be clear, in 2023 people aren't "a Windows user" or "a Linux user". It's tools for the job. I have multiple desktop Linux installs in SBCs, some in retro PCs. People have a Chromebook on the side of their main PC often, just like they have tablets.

Which is good. OS's aren't meant to be locked content platforms.
