@kissane this is a really interesting analysis!! Thanks for taking the time to do this. I'm new to Mastodon AND to Bluesky and I've been seeing a lot of similar criticisms on both. As if people are walking into a space where there are unspoken rules but nobody knows what they are.
Social media is very different than what it was even 5 years ago so it's interesting to see how people feel about all of this.
@iamatrex @kissane I'd say it's a case of the platforms being small, so you're expected to conform to their cultural norms to fit in. I'm not on bsky, but get the impression that's more about shitposting(the fun kind), whereas here is a bit more about protectionism since people are (rightfully) wary of being like Twitter.
Twitter on the other hand was at such a scale that there wasn't any sort of broad culture - no matter what or how you posted, there was most likely a corner for you to fit in.
