It just becomes publicly apparent quickly. Erratic behavior rewarded over a lifetime is a long slow decline that afflicts those whose lucky steak goes on too long. Within SpaceX he had to have a babysitter to prevent him from losing billions (Gwynne Shotwell). At Paypal and Tesla his competition was so sclerotic and monopolistic they left him a green field of opportunity. A deranged bluffer at poker looks like a genius if they keep winning... until they don't.

@mastodonmigration @hobs @aral I suspect that because he's from intergenerational wealth he has more cultural and social support structures around him than Kanye, so we won't ever see a similar total meltdown, but it does seem to be getting worse.

The reality: payments are a solved problem everywhere but the USA. There's no way Twitter will shift the incumbents.
