@256 I had this poster on my wall when I was a kid!
Times sure have changed…

"Good evening Mr. Gates,
I'll be your server today!"
3D render of under a sunset sky, gigantic Tux looks down on and about to stomp on office complex in Redmond, Washington. Penguin Computing logo at bottom right, being their name next to an arc and a Tux.

@256 I love old Linux mags and how edgy their art was lmao

CONFIG.SYS

@256 It's not untrue. The majority of web servers have been Linux-based (and Unix-based) for a long time.

Microsoft also hosts a lot of Linux machines now on Azure.

Josh

@loadhigh Mind you, Microsoft is still the same enormous and morally lacking company that it was back then. They just use Linux to help do their evil now. Not sure if that's a win or not...!

CatsSimsBooks

@loadhigh @256 Didn't ittake them until about 2003 or 2004 until they finally got Hotmail off of their BSD servers?

CONFIG.SYS

@CatsSimsBooks @256 That would make sense, it was an acquisition so it probably took a while to migrate, and why would a startup in the 90s would spend their money on Windoze licenses?

GNU/overflo

@256 what a difference 25 years make.
linux is now a subsystem of GNU/windows

thanks for giving us the full-res image

@256 That picture was clearly drawn by someone who has been to the Microsoft campus in Redmond or seen actual pictures of it, but I can’t match the layout with any of the buildings I expect. I’m tentatively claiming that’s not an actual building, but if anyone knows otherwise please share the building number. (FYI, I’ve ruled out 16/17/18, 26/27, and 42/43 based on shape.)

David Anson

@arthurwyatt @256 I don’t think it’s Red West. Major “main campus” feel for me. Hey @larryosterman do you have an opinion? The building should be Windows, but it’s giving me Office vibes, especially that glass entrance in the middle and the lights and the raised entrance.

@256 I'm biased but I always eye-rolled at most of their ads (disclosure: I had a personally incendiary loathing for PC management for a litany of reasons, both personal and professional) but found jabbing at MSFT always worth a chuckle.

@256 @tchambers I approve of your choice of spirit animal, though Apple’s many OS’s are fine for me 🙂
