@soller out of curiosity, besides it being very cool, what good is this going to do to regular consumers like myself? Do we expect people to check and improve the design, check on hidden management engines, not sure to be honest?

@tuxlife open source bios + hot swappable mechanical keys + trackpoint + right-to-repair ('right' is completely misleading in this case, lol) is the hardware side. Pop_OS! or CosmicOS is not for everyone but at least it offers upgradeability, backup solutions and longevity tailored for hardware and baked into OS without any bs 3rd party tools which is the industry standard in Windows. And it'll work equally good with any Linux distro, but then you configure all by yourself manually. @Nuuskis Open Source BIOS is great, but falls under the software section I would say 🤔 Love and use Pop!_OS on many of my devices, which are primarily ThinkPads to be fair. Don’t think System76 actually ships to The Netherlands and if they do, shipping cost are going to substantial, hoping they open a EU distribution facility to mitigate this, would love to order one off their keyboards to start with. @tuxlife I didn't mention the superior software availability since flatpaks aren't unique as the things I mentioned. I also live in Europe and I tried to force myself for 1,5 years into US layout but 1-row enter/return key was still a constant pain. But I don't care, I'll get Virgo smuggled for me as soon as I know someone who physically visits US. @Nuuskis it’s funny, I order/buy all my laptops/keyboards in US layout because I prefer the tilde and | symbols in specific places, Dutch keyboards and their layout I can’t get used to. |
@tuxlife @soller First, rapairability. It will be easier to identify a faulty component and buy a replacement.
Second, other Open Hardware projects could learn from it, taking inspiration or design decisions. This will improve the overall landscape of available open devices.
