@ActionRetro Linux on old Intel Macs is great! Pretty good hardware support in general. I've run tons of distros on Macs (username checks out) and it's great!

@ActionRetro I get a heart attack, every time someone scrubs his MB over a table without protection 🤪

@ActionRetro what do you reckon is the oldest Mac that modern Ubuntu will run on?

@sudoaptgetlife I bet it can run on any of the 64 bit Intel Macs - even the ones with the hybrid 32/64 bit with a special bootloader thats out there.

@ActionRetro @sudoaptgetlife I ran Linux Mint 64bit alongside Lion on a 2006 iMac with rEFInd IIRC, was a bit of a faff but it worked!

@sudoaptgetlife @ActionRetro The oldest I daily-drive is a 2009 MBP5,3 (so, just after that switch) with :linuxmintnew: 21.2 beta (So, :ubuntu: w/:cinnamon: instead of :gnome:, native flatpaks instead of snaps).
Would happily distro-hop to LMDE 6 once it’s out, or to :archlinux:, but will never go back to :mac:; because no modern security (10.11 was the latest officially supported; no Homebrew or MacPorts) and/or sounds like a jet taking off with any newer version.

@ActionRetro I love the old 11” MBAs. I have a 2012 and a 2015 that I’ve put Chrome OS on (the 2012 is a backup for my sons’ school laptops) and they’re rock-solid (no camera on the 2015, but that’s okay). I think this video has inspired me to drop Linux on the 2015 and see if it can be my daily portable.

@ActionRetro I did exactly this for my bedside computer that I use daily. Mine was the 2011 13" MacBook Air but with the same specs. I originally kept it going once macOS wasn't supported by trying ElementaryOS. Now it runs Garuda. It had its battery replaced several years ago but it is still going strong. Since it is just used for internet browsing and playing YouTube/PeerTube videos it is more than adequate still. I wonder how many more years that will be true.

@ActionRetro I have my 2012 13” i7 MacBook Pro triple booted with Mojave, Windows 10, and Ubuntu. Absolutely rapid little machine and I love it 😁

@ActionRetro Fantastic video! I actually watched it on my 2014 13'' Macbook Air running Arch Linux 😉

@ActionRetro Will it run #HaikuOS without problems? Someone’s gotta find out…

@ActionRetro bro, I like your Linux "shenanigans" please keep up the good work🐧😈😸

@ActionRetro I have Ubuntu 20.04 LTS on a 2008 Mac Pro and it's a fantastic server and workstation. RAID10 across 4x 2TB drives, 24GB of memory, 1x 4core Xeon E5462 @ 2.8Ghz. And it was free!
