@ellestad They aren't marketing it as an additional feature on top of Instagram but a separate platform altogether. They also advertised that it runs on ActivityPub, which I don't think is the case with Instagram.

@h_tejas It is a separate service using the same account database. More like how you have a Google gmail account and a Google Photos account. Everyone who has a Google account for Gmail has an account that can be used for Google Photos. Separate services, same account. @h_tejas What's interesting, now that I think about it, is Meta chose to use the Instagram account for threads and NOT Facebook accounts. 1st, thanks for pointing out that you can *choose* whether to bring over your followers/following list from #Instagram into #Threads. I hate Meta, but I hate inaccurate description more. Now that you know it, I'd appreciate if @h_tejas could edit your post. About using Insta vs. Facebook database. I guess Insta is a younger user base and can adapt to this microblogging format than Facebook users. And Insta still has a more favorable view than Facebook. |
@h_tejas Yeah, well, that sounds better to the share holders and marketing bros, I'm sure. "Amazing Success!"
