Delta Chat is not as popular as other messengers but with decentralized messaging it's not doing so bad, is it? Or which decentral messengers do you know that

- have an as strong Usability driven development model,

- are available on many platforms and stores,

- spearheads unique concepts like https://webxdc.org (web apps shared in a chat) or https://countermitm.readthedocs.io/en/latest/new.html (Verified securely encrypted chats safe against active attacks),

- is constantly reaching out for cross-project collab
?

@pinguin yip of course, Matrix is strong contender -- maybe we missed out on saying "not VC funded" which has certain repercussions especially in the longer term. Also Matrix arguably more geared towards corporate use cases these days and less around small-group/private messaging and, if we are not mistaken, Matrix servers are largely developed by the same org who also produces the main apps? Delta chat's e-mail servers are not developed or deployed by DC folks.

@delta I think there are several matrix servers from german clubs. But yeah, most of the users are on the main server.

@pinguin but are the german servers developed independently from Element/Matrix core folks? One can deploy their own instance but development is a different thing.

@pinguin @delta New Vector performed a fire of several important workers recently.

They decreased efforts in Mjolnir and other important projects while one of the core devs (which is a bad developer) continued increasing his salary.

Matrix is dependent on that.

Even Conduit is developed with support of New Vector folks in order to have an "independent Matrix server" implementation, which is not going very good in terms of support and has been heavily criticized.
