 Are Microblogging services (Twitter, mastodon, threads…) and (group) messaging services (WhatsApp, iMessage, telegram…) really distinct product categories? On the protocol side: ActivityPub and Matrix? Today they are. But why? They sure overlap in many ways. 3 comments
@nemobis not sure this is true. I read number independent interpersonal communications services as telegram, not Twitter. Have they said?  @J12t I'm not sure either. I think your interpretation is the strictest and most likely to be applied first, as we're going to be lucky if we see real enforcement of the interoperability requirements for the specifically enumerated cases (including group chats). However, the obligations on gatekeepers are broader and potentially cover much more than that. |
