Is that an accurate translation, and is there a good reason to believe it?

@WizardOfDocs @rigrig @Mastodon It really sounds like he thinks the Mastodon brand is sufficient to prevent EEE. I think he's forgetting just how unpopular most of the opinionated features of Mastodon are.

If a software is unpopular, then walling it off by blocking #federation servers won't save it.

@WizardOfDocs @Mastodon I read it as "XMPP was only used by a bunch of nerds anyway, which became clear once Facebook and Google pulled out. But they can't do the same to the Fediverse, because Mastodon is way better."

Right now we can¹ block Meta and explain it to users ("Sorry, Threads/Tiktok/Twitter/etc. aren't part of our network").
I wonder what the plan is when Meta Extends ActivityPub once half of .social is following people on .threads…
