If you want to instantly add your own personal account to a Mastodon/Fediverse directory, I can recommend this one:

➡️ fediverse.info/explore/people

It's run by @dansup who created @pixelfed

Here's how to sign up there:

1. Add #Fedi22 to your profile description
2. Add the hashtags you want to be listed under to your profile description
3. Go to fediverse.info/explore/people and click on "Add Account" at the top.

(My own directory is manually maintained and is more for accounts on specific topics.)

Yes. I think the idea is that the fedi22 tag indicates you have given permission for your profile to be listed.

Directories on here generally don't want to list someone without their permission.

@FediFollows @dansup @pixelfed this is such a convoluted way to add one’s profile to it. I came here as an alternative to twitter, and I have to follow 4 steps recipe in mobile. Can you make it so we can do that with a single button?

It needs to be done with permission, which is why you add the Fedi22 tag.

It needs to know what you want to be listed under, which is why it asks for the tags.

It's as simple as it can be without invading your privacy.

@FediFollows @dansup @pixelfed I don’t understand. What is the point of this directory? Not being deliberately obtuse.. just new here. I would think something like this might be nice to help track one individual over multiple instances and time.. but it doesn’t look like that’s the purpose.

It's to help you discover people to follow.

There is deliberately no algorithm on here, so most of the discovery happens through human-run things like word of mouth, by following people who share posts by other people, groups, hashtag following, curator accounts and directories like this.

I posted this today because someone had sent me a message asking for lists to help a particular group find each other. If they join a service like this, that will be easier.
