What’s the best equivalent to an “old-school” Thinkpad laptop, these days? I had a X200s and really liked its keyboard and durability… and yes the red trackpoint too!
(Please don’t say the new Thinkpads… their keyboard is meh)

@elduvelle I had one of those too and loved it (and the trackpoint was a great input device!)

@markgbaxter I wrote most of my PhD thesis on that thing 😅♥️

@elduvelle I bought a 2021 dell inspiron used because I needed a new laptop and I have to say it's actually been a great laptop. I think it carries on the spirit of the thinkpad in many ways. $350 usd got me 8 core 16 threads, 32GB ram, and 1tb ssd.

@elkcityhazard very nice!!
Does it have the trackpad - I mean trackpoint?
edit: added trackpoint correction

@elduvelle unfortunately, it does not. I think some of the later lenovo thinkpad models still do though!

@elkcityhazard They do… but their keyboard is not as good as they used to be (I currently have a T490s and it’s not too bad, but not great either).

@elduvelle If you aren't considering a new ThinkPad, which still have great keyboards, maybe wait until System 76 releases their laptop which will have a TrackPoint.

@elduvelle i'm hoping the system 76 virgo. Not available anytime soon though so keep the old stuff running for a few more years.

@elduvelle it would probably have to be a Dell XPS laptop.
Both Dell XPS and IBM Thinkpads were designed with business in mind

@elduvelle An older refurbished one like T6X or T4X series.
