anyone recognize this logo from anything? I wonder if this is related to any of the federation features

"Soon, you'll be able to follow and interact with people on other fediverse platforms, such as Mastodon. They can also find people on Threads using full usernames, such as <b>@%1$s</b>."

Instagram Threads contains: FediversePromiseViewModel_init_userNotFound "Can't find user in UserCache with id="

So for anyone who had any questions about whether they plan on slurping up your data if we federate with them. Here it is in the flesh...

wakest ⁂ replied to wakest

wondering what these icons mean, the app is called Threads so I wonder if they are focusing on the ability to spit threads.

Mohs replied to wakest

@liaizon whild guesses:
top left: stone thrown into water
top right: a child sliding down a slide
bottom left: a sword fight
bottom right: a ball bouncing of the ground

Ok now I would like to be enlightened what any of this might have to do with Threads.

Andrew replied to wakest

@liaizon If the first one means federated timeline I'm going to laugh so hard

Gotta add some Mutant Dogfooders to my app ya know?!

wakest ⁂ replied to wakest

Instagram Threads contains the text "This website might contain harmful software that is designed to steal information such as your passwords, credit card details and more." and I don't disagree

wakest ⁂ replied to wakest

"If you have a public profile, people on or off %1$s can follow you at any time."

another clue as to it being federated outward early on.

KawaiiPunk replied to wakest

@liaizon thanks for doing this work. Very cool

@kawaiipunk super fun I felt like I was in a cool hacker movie

@liaizon will Instagram Threads federated?

[Meta’s decision to launch Threads pits it against other companies also trying to lure users away from Twitter with alternative social networks.

Mastodon’s open-source decentralized model, which was founded seven years ago, saw a large influx of new users in the immediate aftermath of Musk’s Twitter takeover.]

@liaizon what is your opinion on the Bluesky?

wakest ⁂ replied to wakest

the site is live: threads.net/@zuck

noticed some bugs when you click the back button it shows that the profile is private

wakest ⁂ replied to wakest

oh what the fuck now its no longer public. they just changed something

liam replied to wakest

@liaizon that's odd, all the threads[.]net links show up as blank pages for me

sudo βραχυκύκλωμα :kafeneio: replied to wakest

@liaizon far left - antijew stuff 😂 dat man is crazy 🤪

Christin White replied to wakest

@liaizon that’s an awfully shiny splash page (for an awfully icky network).

Servelan replied to wakest

@liaizon Upper left looks like 'boost'; upper right is down vote. Lower left - ambiguous (scissors cut, but in this context?); lower right, upvote.

Pat Reynolds replied to wakest

@liaizon
Normally, I'd be requesting #AltText but from replies and from what I can see I conclude that this is a rare case where I can't imagine what might be usefully said. Perhaps "four black on white symbols using thick black lines with curved ends and black balls".

Rairii

@liaizon not sure if you saw the second post there as well, it confirms the domain they'll be federated on (hardcoded in the dex bytecode): haqueers.com/@Rairii/110645315

Negative12DollarBill

@liaizon

How dare you speak to me like that!

No seriously it’s logical that they’d have a bad-language detector but not actually store the bad language while developing. You don’t want people to have to see the n-word etc. while working on code.

I’ve seen other systems where they store the bad words in ROT13 for the same reason.

wakame

@liaizon
Could you please put that pervert stuff behind a CW? :blobcatgiggle:

Servelan

@liaizon Doesn't appear to be dictionary entries. Some of those things are obscure/antique words.

Chris

@liaizon maybe just a handful developers doing a poc

🥖etc🥖sysconfig🥖eth0

@liaizon how much you want to bet these are leftover from a demo

Wayne Dixon

@liaizon interestingly those created at times are from February 10th 2017. not sure why such an early date, unless they just created one out of thin air.

wakest ⁂

@waynedixon its a folder of json files of "test ads" that the app would need to support as far as I can tell
