seeing some new faces here! welcome. here are the ground rules:
- there are none. there is no “using it wrong”.
- use content warnings however you want (or not at all)
- ignore tone policing. it can get a bit much, so…
- …if someone gives you the ick, block ‘em.

our time is short and valuable — there’s no point in spending some of it letting some dude hound you in replies for not calling Twitter “the bird site”. that guy sucks.

enjoy your stay besties ☺️✌️✨

@samhenrigold @Gargron where is “it is wrong to request QT, those are abusive”?

@samhenrigold While I mostly agree with your message (gatekeepers should be ignored), I also think it's good to let people know about the functionalities of the platform and why they are nice to use. For instance, alt text on medias is important for screen readers, which helps blind people "see" your content, and setting the correct language helps translation tools, making your content accessible for people speaking other languages.

@samhenrigold The server you sign up on may have rules.

@samhenrigold One slight change -

Your instance may have rules - follow them. The fediverse itself does not.

@Tedgarrison3 Yeah, I should've clarified. I wasn't really thinking about server rules, I was more talking about “there is no prescriptive way to use the platform" and not, like, “you should totally post hate speech”
