10 years ago, Edward Snowden changed the world. The 'Snowden leaks' were a wake-up call: The conspiracy theory that Secret Services were monitoring our private conversations has proven to be true.

Public backlash after this revelation might have bought us years in our fight for privacy. However, today governments around the world are again pushing for more surveillance. This must be stopped! 🔒

Conspiracy Theory???

My friends, the US "Church Committee" was in 1975. The first US example I'm aware of is that telegraph wires were physically rerouted *through the Whitehouse* during the US Civil War for interception. If a person was not aware of this desire and capability for State Surveillance they were either niave, or history had dimmed the memory...

>It also unearthed Project SHAMROCK in which the major telecommunications companies shared their traffic with the NSA (while officially confirming the existence of this signals intelligence agency to the public for the first time).

@Tutanota as a gay man on the left of the political spectrum, I can honestly say the surveillance state doesn’t make me feel safe. It makes me feel unsafe. Very unsafe. It’s embarrassing as an American that the EU is outpacing us in privacy preserving laws.

It’s clear that a generation of legislators who didn’t know how to use a smartphone 15 years ago allowed a small minority of that generation who did silently enact a technocratic authoritarian hegemonic police state. No shade only tea. 🍵🫖
