@tbehrens @vagina_museum ok sure but I'm unsure how that connects to the German gender studies stuff in this thread @furby @vagina_museum „In 1901, "heterosexual" first appeared in Dorland's Medical Dictionary, meaning “abnormal or perverted appetite toward the opposite sex". In other words, hererosexuality was considered pathological when it was first coined!“ @tbehrens @furby @vagina_museum I also find it in the 1900 edition: see https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=ien.35558005329269&view=1up&seq=318 The OED also notes an 1898 usage in this sense in another work, as well as an 1895 usage in an English translation of a German work that appears to use it with the usual present-day sense. |
