@anildash Unfortunately switching platforms is too big of a pain for many less (tech) savvy folks, so they’ll stick to these platforms as they turn into pure misinformation platforms. The platform owners may lose money, but they will gain influence.

@anildash Largely agree, but worth remembering the role of "investors" strategically extracting as much value as they can and then leaving behind the withered husk of previously viable companies. Like Toys R Us. They still exist in Canada, I suspect because we have slightly stricter regulations that prevented private equity from destroying the company for short term gains here.

We don’t live in a market economy so much, it’s wealth simply pillaging real companies for even more money. Bed Bath and Beyond, Norfolk rail, Sears, etc and most of Musk’s efforts are pillage and pillage of tax payers by subsidy. Mean while we have cartels like Cargill, Tyson or monopolies like LiveNation or TicketMaster. Where markets are destroyed or largely maimed. Capitalism? Not even

They already own most of media. Beyond Fox, there is Sinclair broadcasting plus FB / the Tube which promote rw content the most for outlets like DailyWire. We live in a situation that rhymes with a century ago, but in many ways our situation is unique because the take over is a project run over 50 years. It has been a stealth coup of sorts. It is already institutionalized. DeSantis made a stab at a police force loyal to him IIRC

@GhostOnTheHalfShell @anildash You're right that we're already seeing it. The old money controls the traditional media, traditional military, and traditional banks. The new money is about the social media, crypto, and probably mixture of pmc and palantir, and probably palmer luckey's company. I believe there's a good probability that next year, Reddit will become the perfect place for election disinformation. Twitter already is, Meta probably wants to be in round 2.

@anildash Dr Manhattan is one of the more interesting characters in modern media. What would happen to someone if they obtained really exceptional powers. How would you even relate to anyone else at that point? Alan Moore is one hell of an interesting guy to say the least.
