It’s kinda sad to see people think I’m ’bribed’ by Meta.. I have not signed anything, I did not attend anything from them nor did I accept anything but still the worst is assumed when I don’t agree on blocking a still in development project that we don’t even know the (domain)name from right away

I don’t have any love for Meta or any of such companies whatsoever, that’s why I’m putting all I have in these platforms and guard it with my life so don’t expect Meta to get a ‘free pass’ on anything

@stux I totally support you I've taken a similar approach and people on my instance has take it very well.

@stux You're not bribed, but I do consider it naive to not expect Meta's BS from Meta's platforms. They're going to use us to springboard. Then defederate. It's what happened with #xmpp

I don't think it's a good idea to let that happen.

@scirave I totally feel this and that's why i will be read with the "block button" the day they join and with the first sight of things going wrong

SciRave

@stux I'm just worried they'll slow burn this by acting amicable, gain a sizable userbase, leave, and then abuse em. This whole situation is making me antsy...

I can't really think of any reason why a corporation like FB would do this otherwise, which is why I completely understand people preblocking.

@stux @scirave when things going wrong then our data will already be harvested so it's too late

SciRave

@fosserytech @stux It's already harvested (or you might as well consider it as that). It's public info, they are allowed to crawl it.

SciRave

@strabysme @stux Many coprorations used it. Google Talk, Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, etc. Some still use it in their backends. They went in, got big, and then walled off their garden.

Ash_Crow

@strabysme @scirave @stux both Google Chat and Facebook Messenger (or its predecessor, not sure it had the name yet) used to XMPP clients.

@stux I find your stance ridiculously reasonable. I have really enjoyed the environment you foster here, and I expect you will continue to provide a social, safe place for people like me in the future.

So much fuss over things that haven't even happened yet, my goodness.

@stux it's sad you had to say anything on this, but it's good that you did <3

@stux you’re the only one in my feed who is being mature at all about this whole thing, i genuinely appreciate you as my server admin

@stux sorry you’re going through this. But, it is far better to be having the discussions now on how to prepare than being blindsided when things go sideways after they arrive.

@stux Seems like guarding something with your life would include vowing to block known enemies. But that's just me, I guess.

@stux Sorry to hear it. People have become very cynical and afraid to trust in anyone's ethics or goodwill. We do know Zuckerberg has done some deeply dirty deeds. I sure never want to put another dime in his pockets.

@stux yeah, this debate is getting off the rails. I've seen a few people making completely bonkers claims. Sorry this is hitting you hard, I feel bad about my role in this.

@stux@mstdn.social It's actually very funny to see people talking about something that doesn't "exist" yet.

@stux it's awful seeing some people accusing you of taking bribes. It almost make me lose hope in this social media.
