me: *alt-tabs out of a game*

windows: oh dear god what is happening hurrghghgh

*my monitor flickers wildly for ten seconds*

*all of my desktop icons are rearranged*

*every single window I have open is pushed into a tiny pixel in the corner of my screen*

*everything is 640x480*

*HDR turns on for some reason*

*my hard drive starts formatting itself*

*my headphones blast dial-up noises in my ear*

*my keyboard catches on fire*

@kasdeya you had me up until the harddrive formatting

@kasdeya Linux:

- Fine on most games
- Some games move themselves to the now-active i3 workspace, except if you change to one on another screen
- Other games can't take keyboard input anymore even after focusing them again (looking at you MTGA)
- Every game needs another workaround to successfully unfocus it - opening steam overlay and then moving elsewhere seems to work pretty well tho

@kasdeya This is the most "how it feels using windows" post I've ever read

@kasdeya

I hate how everything up to

"*my hard drive starts formatting itself*"

is actually a thing that just happens sometimes Dx

@kasdeya alt tabs out of a game to like this post.....buys new computer

@kasdeya you were quite fortunate to be allowed to alt-tab successfully out of the game. Some people died from starvation at their keyboard and the game is still running.

@kasdeya linux is great becase alt tabbing is either completely fine or it hard crashes your desktop enviroment

@kasdeya@tech.lgbt that's why it's called the alt-tab. If you wanted things to stay consistent you'd just ctrl c out of the game after saving. ;-)

@kasdeya I play that game too. At least I think it's the same game. Sometimes it randomly crashes.

@kasdeya
Please continue.
There will be cake.

this is why I use borderless window mode whenever possible

@kasdeya FWIW Windows 11 mostly fixed this, there's a lot of window management revision in 11.
