Re-splashed after 4 days on the hard. I am totally wiped. I love living on a boat, but maintaining one is grueling work.

Everytime we haul out I feel like me & Dev are always learning a ton of new things. In this haulout, we learned to:
- Dissassemble/reassemble our prop
- Use a puller
- Remove the shaft coupling
- Service our dripless shaft seal
- Wax the hull properly

Aaand we learned that we can't remove Pino's shaft w/o removing the engine :angry_laugh:

A boatyard is a very unhealthy place.

Blue, black and red rivers of antifouling-logged water run at your feet. Clouds of ground plastic and paint drift by, settling on the ground when the wind dies, and rising with every gust. The constant roaring of grinders and machinery attacking your ears, and the nose-burning stink of an assortment of toxic chemicals.

Actually, I forgot to say, but we saw the junk-rigged boat China Cloud in the yard!
Ought to have photographed it, but it was in a sorry state, and hopefully will look this good again soon.

@rek i love junk boats! this is a beautiful one. i (accidentally) took a whole class about the history of boats in college and they were by far my favorite lol

River Rat

@rek looks lovely! Not only a junk rig, but that hull looks East Asian, to my eye at least, which is not something I've seen much of around. I'd love to get a chance to sail a junk rig at some point, have you ever?

@rek I'm planning to switch to Coppercoat when I can afford it. Only antifouled once, and have to do it again next summer ><

@nomand Yea Coppercoat is not cheap, but then again, so is time in a boatyard. If you can do regular scrubbings in water should work out quite well :).

@rek Yeah I was surprised and saddened by this.

I liked the sound of these drive-in boatwash things... would need to do it regularly... and probably only available at fancy expensive marinas... -_-

@rek Do as Moitessier did, remove that stinking and heavy engine! ;-)

@rek that last item seems like it deserves a higher placement on the list, because engine out service on anything is a huge deal.
