Implicit corollary: "work makes you free".

Tell me that's not saying the quiet part loud.

Screen cap of tweet by Libertarian Party (@LPNational):

In the workplace, a child will learn valuable
skills they can't apply elsewhere. At public
schools, they learn to hate their parents and
the very things that make them free.

“That's libertarians for you — anarchists who want police protection from their slaves.”

-Kim Stanley Robinson

@rrwo @cstross I laughed, but an anarchist should be completely against slavery in every form.

The huge difference between anarchists and libertarians is that a libertarian believes that the desires of the individual always take priority over the needs of society, so for example my desire to own a gun would always trump society's need not to have their children shot to death.

@TomSwirly @rrwo There's a whole thread of US conservative thought (I won't dignify it with the label "philosophy") that starts by asking "if I am a sovereign individual, do I have the right to sell my kidney? Okay, how about the right to sell myself?" And does a deep dive into concluding that yes, slavery *is* compatible with libertarianism (because property rights are the ONLY rights). Then they throw away the diving board of logic and out themselves as slavery stans. It gets very ugly, fast.
