@Gargron @briankrebs good read. What's the plan to help protect us on Mastodon?

@Gargron Why are the scammers targeting Mastodon? Does the Mastodon user demographics really bait to such scams?

@Gargron @briankrebs lol, "it's not my domain, someone bought it for me as a birthday present"

Ahhh the ever present obsession to make more money. . to pay for permission to live and ultimately maintain the needless class warfare.

@Gargron @briankrebs - I do a lot of domain and IP reputation work and I've yet to see a legit "pw" tld domain.

Which is unfortunate as the Palau people did nothing to deserve this - I think just really lax TLD management.

This is quite a big number! However it seems to be a target of opportunity, as I read it.
β€œThis was three hours non-stop, 200,000 to 400,000 requests per second,” (from the article).

Is there anything in the roadmap for (a) making it so admins can put LIMITS on the amount of invites users can create (there was a github issue for this but it got closed as "not on roadmap" recently, so I'm guessing very not) and (b) keeping track of the chain of invitations, so that if Alice invites Bob who invites ASDF1, ASDF2...ASDF47, each of who invites spambots, all those spambots can be identified as stemming from very probably Bob and possibly Alice as well?
