We have some green coffee beans left over from @cathos, I will try to see if I can sun-roast them 🌻

@neauoire ooh! I'm excited to see the results!

The sweet smell of coffee beans roasting in the sun is very distracting

@neauoire I can almost smell it just by reading you, enjoy!

@neauoire I used to live in a tiny house with two cats behind a roastery. It was amazing waking up. I'll never forget pappa John, a Polish emigre to Canada. Best coffee in the world. Bravo for roasting ur own!

kiwi

@neauoire @cathos do you have to stir/rotate them like when roasting over a flame? so interested to see how this goes

Devil Lu Linvega

@kiwi @cathos I turned them over once after about an hour. I noticed the beans at the edges were lighter.

Light roast
Hand ground
Moka pot

It turned out absolutely delicious. Next time, I will try a medium roast, I just couldn't wait to taste it. 🌻

We were afraid that roasting coffee beans anchored in a bay might be difficult as the sailboat rights itself with the wind, making the angle of the sun move around us, but we did it early enough that the tide current kept us aligned with the sun for long enough that we could roast a whole tray without having to adjust it.

Tendigits

@neauoire am I correct in thinking that you could travel further/longer with green beans that you roast as needed?

Devil Lu Linvega

@tendigits like we do with wheat kernels, mhmm. Maybe yeah!

@neauoire Wait, but... can you solar-brew the coffee in the moka pot????

Devil Lu Linvega

@xiroux I don't think so, we'd need a different setup. I'm pretty sure that building pressure inside a vacuum tube would be unwise.

@neauoire @xiroux we could heat the water, maybe, and do a sort of 'pour-over' coffee though.

@neauoire never not impressed with this tube!!
