important to note the locals call it the glory hole, there weren't board rooms full of people in suits going "we'll call this here feature the glory hole" *muffled sniggering* remarkably only one person has ever died going down a bellmouth spillway. she hung on for 20 minutes @finn Surely this is because their very presence is absolutely terrifying and everyone stays well away from them most of the time? @finn Nearest one to me that I know of is here - https://i.stuff.co.nz/environment/92854783/central-otago-dam-seen-as-only-chance-for-harmony-over-fight-for-water - right up close to the bank. Plenty of photos around with it dry too. So you could walk out to it...   I wonder if there's a waye to shape it so it also lets out a steady low pitched moan when water is flowing  @finn @StillIRise1963 Ooh, Owyhee Reservoir in eastern Oregon has one of those âglory holes.â Most years itâs far above the water level.  So many questions.. bit wow ... The noise would be beautiful ....and what about the other end ? ... Any power generation happening Thank you for sharing Hugz & xXx @melissabeartrix @finn IIRC (grew up near there & visited a few times), the sound is a monumentally impressive white noise roar, the other end is whitewater leaping from a row of rectangular window-shaped openings set into the base of the dam & then forming a lovely creek, & the purpose of the reservoir is irrigation rather than hydropower. @melissabeartrix @finn Youâre welcome. đ Iâd happily let you take the first turn on the water slide (& all subsequent turns). I was *terrified* of that thing as a kid. I still canât look at it without imagining a small boat being pulled into its increasingly irresistible current & then over the edge, down to whatever form of macerating concrete maw lies at the bottom. (Okay, thatâs maybe not the vocabulary I would have used as a kid. đ) Bodysurfing down that creek at the bottom, though⌠đ @finn well, in beamNG, Iâd stunt jump into it, awaiting a 2001 looking landing sequence. As strange as it sounds.  @finn they should have put a fence around the edge of this giant hole at least :D @finn Ladybower Reservoir in the UK has 2 of them. 78ft diameter each. They freak me out! :)  |
