Quick question, why do you default all new users to mastodon.social? Isn’t that server oftentimes at capacity because it has grown so (too) much? You could have defaulted to a randomly picked open server, maybe even depending on uptimes and other factors.

sure list the default as the big one and I;m a drummer not a writer but maybe be honest about the training wheels approach which eugen won't be:

mastodon.social is a single high population server owned by the developers. Your local feed will be useless and you will not learn much about the wider Mastodon network and the much wider Fediverse [links] and many in the the federated network will never see you and vice versa. [link]

You can learn also about about other mastodon servers that may be a better home for you [links for server lists, moderation and federation]
