>never posts >goes back to twitter such is the fate of a mastodoner @w I get that it can be hard to adjust to, but it just takes a little time and practice tbh (if you're used to birdsite that is) "i'm going to get twitter blue." >posts a picture of a child sticking a knife into a wall socket. @w This is probably the best feature of the Fediverse, its sine qua non, really. So many mouthbreathers are automatically filtered out simply by making them select where to shitpost. But with the official client now offering a smooth path for smoothbrains onto mastodon.social, the good times may be coming to an end :/ @w If one is not a techie-type, yeah, it can be. I had a hard time at first, and Iβm moderately tech-savvy. @w @Awassi that is the core tenant of decentralization. By democratizing who runs the platform, no single outage collapses the entire network. Don't worry about the instances so much - find one that is stable and run by people you feel you can trust with the tech side of things, and carry on. Worry about finding Your People. Banding on one instance sort of defeats the purpose of federated networks. @Ervo Aaaah that makes sense. So if one falls or goes to shit, the whole thing doesn't fall with it. @Awassi exactly, you can also move from one instance to another with little effort, you take all your following and followers with you @Ervo I guess my last question is if I need to make multiple accounts across different instances or if I should just have the one. @Awassi At first I also believed that it was necessary to make multiple accounts but then I realized that it doesn't contribute much, although if you need multiple accounts for your normal account and your AD account, for example, you can create them in different instances if you want @kaydenpmd There is no "official" server; only a "first" server. ;) Choosing a server is like choosing a neighborhood. Find one with a theme you like and follow whatever might look remotely interesting. You can always pare and refine later. @w these people wouldn't survive in a CoD lobby back in the day |
