@Gargron , great, I use this feature as well :-) It always helps to detect when the account is official or not :-) And I'm glad that verification is free here, on a #Fediverse project, #Mastodon :-) @Gargron @arstechnica Thatโs great to see. Self-verified with link verification. I looked and found this syntax on their home page. <link rel="me" href="https://mastodon.social/@arstechnica"> @Gargron @arstechnica Following the "official" Ars Technica and unfollowing the bot account that served me well until they arrived. @Gargron @arstechnica i've verfied my web snd github but cannot verify my Pixelfed account @Gargron @arstechnica @Gargron @arstechnica That's good news. There was a bot doing a decent job, but great to have the real thing here (and verified!!!). @Gargron @arstechnica A bit odd theyโre on the mastodon.social site though - a techsite could do more to put the โfediโ in fediverse @Gargron @arstechnica I love that this is an actual way to verify people or organisations, not just to verify that someone has a credit card... Not mentioning any names... @Gargron @arstechnica @anildash Imposter: if only it were possible to create @arstechnica on another instance and verify it with a plausible domain, alas @Gargron @arstechnica well I think anyone can impersonate by placing that rel='me'. Consider what if I just get myself a domain like thisiselonmusk.com and put rel=me there. Will I become Elon Musk? @Gargron @arstechnica Verification remains very tricky to get working. Eventually it happened for our @okaphone account. But right now I'm struggling with this account. The back link has been in place for about a day (before I tried). I've been clearing caches, logging out and in, modifying my setting in various ways, changing the URL, waiting, tried a-tag and link-tag... but sofar no luck. Maybe you guys should do some testing on this important functionality and make it a bit more reliable. ๐ค |

2. I still don't know why my *website* won't get verified, but the blog page works :/
