Right, well, since the charming person who owns thegx.ca saw it fit to reply so kindly, I’ve gone ahead and reported their domain to both their domain registrar – abuse@promopeople.com – via email and to their web host – hostpapa.com/ – via chat – “Thank you very much for letting us know about this Aral. I will report it to the appropiate team so we can take care of it”.

See what being so damn affable gets you?

Bloody spammers.

@aral You have my sympathy. I put "thegx" into the search bar as soon as I started getting the reports, and pre-emptively blocked everything that came up.

There were *over a dozen* of the blighters. Gah.

@aral I always knock 'em right in the 'net connection. Most providers are happy to handle taking them down, but I haven't had good luck with domain registrars -- they tend to push back and tell me to go talk to their service provider. Do you have any hints for how to get useful responses from domain registrars?

@damnitjanet No idea. This is the first time I’ve tried it. Will let you know how it goes :)

@aral Domain providers are typically constrained by formal procedures and slow to move. The folks at the current host are good people (and technically competitors); you're likely to get a good response from them. And if the fellow ties to open an account with me, he can go fish.

@aral you got a boilerplate live chat response and they'll be able to get another dollar domain and another dollar VPS. I wouldn't be doing your victory dance yet

@aral I’ve just reported the site as well through hostpapa’s chat. I recommend everyone who comes across this spam account does that. Eventually they’ll get tired of hearing the reports and will remove this spammer.

@aral I contacted hostpapa by chat. This was the response (by e-mail)
Hi,

I have checked with the client. They have confirmed that their forum clients can not send emails outside their forum. And this issue is not directly linked to their account as the users in the spam evidence you have provided are merely using their domain name but not actually from their domain.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

@aral The hosting provider won't do anything. We need to go after their ISP
