A friend gave us his old oven mitts when he moved out of his boat last year. I cut them up, combined, and re-stitched them into a sort of tea cosy for our percolator(which we use as a kettle).
When we need hot water refills for tea we can keep water warm for a while this way :> (we don't have a teapot, but this works fine).

@rek
With a minor adjustment it could double as a nice warm hat. Just don't forget where you got the style guru tip ;)

Added this to a page on my website along with other small sewing projects that involve reusing/repurposing existing items.

@rek Neat! I love the double mitten, haha!

How did you mount the curtain for the spices and how do you get at them? Do you roll it/hold it up?

@rostiger ohh yea i should have taken a photo of that. I made two little wooden blocks, and carved a slot on one side and fixed them to the wall. So the top dowel (and curtain) slips into the slot and is held up that way. The bottom dowel is loose(no blocks) just to keep items from slipping out if weather ever gets too rough while underway.

To take spices out of the top shelf its easier to take the curtain off, for items in the bottom i can just lift it.

@rek That makes sense, thanks for the explanation. It's cool that it's pretty flexible that way. Also that fabric fits perfectly! :tealheart:
