oh yeah. I love old designs that do helpful things like put all the chips in sockets.

put the SRAM in a socket, why not? is anyone ever gonna change it out? probably not!

@foone I wonder what the reason for that is. Ease of design? Faster prototyping/easier to mess around with? Since some stuff needs to be socketed, make all of it socketed so we don't need to think about it at all?

@foone So... do you think this was just about repairability, or were they maybe worried about heat-damage to the part if they soldered ir directly?

@foone in 10th grade electrical engineering I was trained to do this to reduce the likelihood of frying a chip when soldering. But then in the rest of my life I was trained to save a few cents per unit.
