Working off solar on the pinebook via usb-c on an overcast day and we're still power-positive. I feel silly to have not noticed the usb-c charger on the pinebook after all this time, it beats going through the inverter and wasting lots of power there.

We'll try this DC power supply(cigarette lighter connector) for the old macbook that Rek uses.

@neauoire got the same one for my old laptop when it’s in the top case of my motorcycle. Not used anymore tho, gave that laptop away, love that era of macbook.

@neauoire You might have already seen it, but just in case: there are also adapters and cables that allow charging magsafe macbooks from usb-c, if you already have that available.

Devine Lu Linvega

@marcink those were too rare, we had a hard time finding them.

@neauoire I believe the barrel connector takes 5V also, so if you need the USB-C port for not-power you can still charge off of the barrel without the inverter. PINE sells a cable for it, but I bet one could make it easily too: pine64.com/product/2-meters-le

@neauoire I would love to see your setup. The dream of solar powered computing is all I ever wanted!

@neauoire Ohh - this is super attractive to me. Do you do development on your pinbook? I had looked at them, but with 2G of RAM, thought they might be kind of underpowered. Would love to know more about your setup (OS, window manager, IDE, etc.)

@dominick I do, but they're actually overpowered for what I do, so I tend to alternate between the RPi 3B and the pinebook for when I need to do heavy stuff.

I basically just drive uxn applications: wiki.xxiivv.com/site/roms.html

@neauoire @dominick
What system are you running on Pine? If Linux, which distribution? Is it #PineBook or maybe #PineBook Pro? I have PBP with #NetBSD, but WiFi driver in not stable and probably #manjarolinux is much better for power saving.

Devine Lu Linvega

@nutilius @dominick manjaro on PBP, everything else I tried had issues
