Took off every MC4 solar connector aboard, we're tired of them breaking and leaking. We'll try just using simple marine butt-connectors.

@neauoire I don't even have a boat, but I find this fascinating and cannot wait to find out how the new connectors work.
... Am I OK? Why is this so interesting!?

@edtyping those are the early warning signs of boat disease

@neauoire I thought I had recovered when I got rid of my collection of books by Lin and Larry Pardey. Alas ...

Our new solar power strategy is use longer wires, and make all the connections indoors, instead of using "waterproof" terminals outdoors.

@neauoire I learned that same lesson in the context of running Ethernet cables through the woods and up trees.

@klardotsh keep as much below deck as you can, anything outside will leak and not last.

@klardotsh when we do haulout in sidney together, if you need MC4 connectors we'll give you a bunch

@klardotsh @neauoire yea and do the same for inside junction boxes of your panels... those arent entirely 100% weatherproof either (even if if the manufacturer says they are XD)... we found some issues with the one on our hard panel. Didn't think we'd need to grease that up, but we will now.

@neauoire drip loops and bottom entry through greased cable glands into IP67 wall penetrations or junction boxes.

@neauoire misread that as MC Solaar. Brief confusion ensued.

@neauoire
As I had some trouble aquiering those plugs in the first place, I ended up by soldering those wires together, which lasted for 10+ years on the top of my car. I did not have to deal with salty water though.
