The continued growth of Misskey isn't mentioned enough.

But look at this graph.

Fediverse.observer says there are 233,996 Misskey accounts.

This is actually a conservative estimate since the-federation.info lists 1,231,334 accounts.

The biggest Misskey server is misskey.io which has 157,839 accounts.

Many of you may not know about Misskey. It's big in Japan.

But you may have heard of Calckey, a fork of Misskey, which is getting more popular here in the West.

@atomicpoet Wow, that February spike! Is that due to Twitter as well?

@ff0000 Misskey got some media coverage in Japan, which resulted in the current wave of new accounts.

@atomicpoet Interesting, that makes the internationalization part of the Fediverse also easier in the sense that certain software can tailor to particular markets while still being connected to the larger Fediverse, while otherwise a huge platform has to try to do that.

Badly-optimised primate

@atomicpoet It's always difficult to do "fastest growing" things though. If I have a company with one person in it and employ someone else, I've grown 100%, for example. It's skewed for smaller numbers if you use a percentace, and for much larger numbers if you use absolutes.

I wish people would stop using it at all really. Isn't it enough to say, "X is cool"?
