Elon Musk: what if I just straight up shoot a puppy in the face, would you still use Twitter then?

@aral Wouldn't be surprised if at least some people came up with lengthy posts basically saying "sure I feel sorry for the puppy but other platforms won't let me quote retweet, so I'm the real victim here" along with making claims that "staying on Twitter to resist and avenge the puppy" is the real honourable choice, actually. "I need it for my job," is the generalized version. I'm not a journalist (or in any profession that "needs" Twitter). So I won't argue the point. Same with disabled and oppressed communities that say "It took a long time to build <Our> Twitter, we're not just leaving it." Okay, no judgment on either. But I do have a question: what are you doing to develop an alternative? I've sympathy for those barely getting by that need the extra dollars Twitter can bring, but they above all have no excuse for not ALSO hustling away on Mastodon - sure, just 10% as big, but that's like selling to Canada as well as the States, smart sellers do that. As for those who are comfortable: that would be all the rich Twitter celebrities like Chrissy Teigen, who's been 'brave' about all kinds of stances, but not where it cuts into her millions. Not even a Mastodon echo. @aral some people would join the Nazi Party if it meant keeping their followers on twitter... @aral I have a duty to my readers to endure the shooting of puppies so I can report on the shooting of puppies. |
@aral X marks the spot… on Spot.
