@jon I agree heartily. But individual servers might be a lot of overhead for each entity. I think there might be benefit to a coalition of news companies setting up one server for themselves.

@Geniusak , setting up a #Mastodon server is not that complicated. All these news organizations already have other servers, so adding this as a service would not add to much to the complexity.

You want to be able to identify both the organization and people working there. That is rather easy to do with Mastodon.

Yes the admin overhead of a separate organization to run a joint server and verify users would far outweigh IT overhead of their own instance.
