I freakin' hate haggling.

I'm already selling a thing at half price, a good quality, new, not once used thing... and it is insaaaane how persistent ppl are.

*Item is listed at 50$*

Guy: "Ill give you 30 for it!"
Me: "It's new.... 50 is fair, I paid a lot more for it.. c'mon, help me recoup a little." 🥺
Guy: "I can buy a whole set for that same price!" :puppycat:
Me: "It's not a cheap part... *sigh*... 40 then, no lower though." 🙄
Guy: "30!!!!" :moar:
Me: 😤

@rek Yeah, it's the worst. I usually price stuff higher than I want because I know they're going to low-ball me.

R E K

@ian Yea. Ought to have done that >_<....

@jbauer @ian I hate resorting to trickery, but also hate replying to jerks so :P... haha~

@rek a passive aggressive (firm) behind a price is my 'white lady shit' tip of the day, or is that a socialize male tip - dunna, personal politics is hard.

@rek We buy and sell lots of kid's stuff online and I've found there to largely be two categories of people. Those who show at least basic manners and those who don't realize or care that there are other human beings sitting behind the screen. That being said, I've had the nicest interactions through second hand buys.

R E K

@rostiger i've had a lot of good interactions too :), mostly when Im the one asking for items hehe... i met a lot of rly nice ppl doing that, but i also wasnt haggling ;).

@rek Have you ever noticed how some people are really irritated when you don't haggle? It's as if a transaction cannot be conducted properly without this ritualistic dance. It's strange to me, it might be a cultural thing.

R E K

@rostiger ill only consider haggling if Im 100% certain the price isnt fair, or if im seeing the item in person and it's not as described.
Yea, i wasn't raised like that so its super tough for me.

@rek If you've seen Broad City, think of that scene from SheWork where Ilana haggles with the WeWork bros and they just keep repeating the same number. Channel your inner dark side, make a pact with the startup bro within you. :flan_evil:

R E K

@csepp no never seen it hehe... not sure I can go bro. Once you go bro, real hard to un-unbro.

Csepp 🌢

@rek Yep, it is a dangerous pact to make. But to be real, both Ilana from Broad City and Tuca and Tuca & Bertie are like, my go to role models when I have to do a Standing Up For Myself Thing ™️.
Actually, Ilana does technically win in that scene, just not as much money as she originally wanted, so maybe it's best to side with the inner Ilana. 🤔
TLDR just be assertive. UwU

@rek stand your ground. Buyers will fuck sellers around in every possible way. I sell a lot on facebook and I just collect interest requests and puck a buyer, I don't even respond to lowballers. you don't owe them anything, not even a negotiation. that's why you should also never list at reserve price. add 30% so you can make a buyer feel better by knocking a bit off the price and still be happy as a seller.

pinky.

@rek "no." is a complete sentence and not rude imo

@rek

Totally ditto. I list all things as "firm" and stick to it religiously, give people exactly one "it's non-negotiable" repeat, then don't even reply to further haggles. I would (usually) rather throw it out or give it away to a nice neighbor, than put up with that.

PS: Never move to the Netherlands ... the Dutch are *soooo* into haggling. Sigh.
