God damn, the amount of people I'm blocking today!

To review what will get you blocked:

1. Don't try to content police my posts
2. Don't be a concern troll regarding causes that I won't compromise on
3. Don't be a Karen (yes, male Karens exist too)
4. Don't be a reply guy trying to show off expertise that you clearly don't have
5. Don't hijack threads to push your own content

Most people are awesome, but bad actors are definitely increasing.

Do we have a name for male Karens by now?

Chris Trottier

@Stark9837 Karens require no specific gender. Anyone can be a Karen.

For example, Elon Musk is Space Karen.

Are you muting or blocking them? I only recently actually looked at the difference.

Some people's posts I don't want to see and others I don't want them to see mine, but if I am just not interested in their content I mute them, maybe they still like my content and share it with their followers. The problem is that you, however, then still attract them to your posts, so blocking is the best.

Chris Trottier

@Stark9837 They're blocked. I don't want to give them write access to my future posts.

@atomicpoet

You also protect your followers then, so I think blocking is the better idea then.

That said, accountability is fine if I were to ever step out of line.

What I mean by content policing are people who are like, "How dare you talk about a video game!"

Which actually happened recently.

@atomicpoet there seems to be a bit of a "don't talk about x y and z on mastodon because people here don't want to read it, keep it on #Twitter " or whatever. It's frustrating, but I just ignore it tbh

Chris Trottier

@lemonflavoured Nah, content police need to be called out. They have no business dictating whether or not people can talk about hobbies and interests.

[Edit]

"How dare you use too many hash tags!!!"

"How dare you *not* use a longer alt-tag block than the actual text body of the post you're making and the alt-tag is attached to!!!"

Both of which I've seen in the last couple days

All the new arrivals here have *really* triggered the #Mastodon #Gatekeepers

And their belligerent #Troll look-alikes

Robert Guillam

@atomicpoet wait what's wrong with talking about a video game?

Jennifer Pinkley

@atomicpoet I went on a blocking spree yesterday too in my posts ranting about what's going on in Tennessee, mostly people hijacking my posts to try to say guns shouldn't be banned when I wasn't talking about guns. But I've been on Mastodon for five months and this is the first time I felt the need to block a bunch of people so in a sense that's pretty great.

DELETED

@atomicpoet Decided to block so I don't offend your rules.
