Of course abortion rights matter. Yeah, we should all listen to people with a uterus, and hear about their lived experiences.

But white feminists should stop being such Karens and consider that other people matter too.

You’re not the only ones being deprived of your human rights.

I spend a good portion of my time talking about social media. There’s a reason for this.

1. Surveillance capitalism is a greater threat than most people realize
2. Fascists exploit Big Social to their benefit
3. Social media is actively being used to censor activists

I feel I have something to contribute to that conversation since I’ve worked in the social media industry for much of my adult life.

For other topics, I’d rather pass the mic—not because I don’t care but because I do.

Everything that’s happening in the world right now is interconnected.

The same people who are banning abortion are the same who allow mass shootings to continue to happen.

And it’s no accident that Elon Musk is throttling Substack right now.

This is why one particular human rights violation doesn’t exist in a silo.

You know why certain people don’t want kids to be taught “wokeism”?

Because if kids find out what “woke” actually means, they’ll discover that they have more in common with people who exist in the margins than privileged billionaires.

This is why the likes of Elon Musk want to “own” social media so badly.

They believe if they own the means of communication, they own our thoughts too.

If you want to know who I stand with, it’s with:

1. The teenage girl who’s forced to carry her pregnancy to term
2. The African-American man who got “randomly” stopped by police at an intersection
3. The indigenous elder denied clean drinking water
4. The transwoman scared to go to the bathroom
5. The young man sent to war and had his limbs blown off
6. The refugee denied asylum

I’m on their side.

Now that you know that, go follow and listen to people with those lived experiences.

@atomicpoet Possibly, but I think it's closer to a secular or religious compound without walls. Keep all of 'em dumb and keep the women pregnant. Never ask "why?" and never question their "leaders."

The standard answer for the religious zealots is "...you have to take some things on faith."

@atomicpoet
Our thoughts are and will be forever our thoughts.
How can someone possibly think it is different.?
Ok yes if you brainwash them…

@atomicpoet History has shown that they are not wrong. The rich have been using "divide and conquer" for almost all of our history, and it has been more than a little successful.

@atomicpoet I think there is a basic Psychology that can’t be eradicated but always is a mindset easily fallen into:

- Not wanting to care too much about others; they don’t deserve it, you need to focus on yourself and no one else is doing it so you’ll be left behind

- ignoring those who are charitable or ethical because you don’t want to feel bad that others are better than you, as, per above, that’s an invalid Self Evaluation

IE Absolute selfishness and ethical denial.

NPLady72

@atomicpoet that’ll backfire spectacularly

@atomicpoet I read a very good oped by a retired Canadian senator the other day.

DELETED

@atomicpoet i tend to agree. But a caviat I have is that I think it's a wrong turn to talk about what IS the most important.

But what is important to ME personally.

We all live in a bubble, and trying to universalize the value judgement just makes it a competition.

I think its healthy to be a littlebit selfcentered. So that a woman prioritizes abortion over other issues is okay with me, but doesnt mean I will too. 😅

@atomicpoet you've just told a whole swathe of American women to shut up because the world has bigger worries than just those that effect them. You then described concerns that are fairly unique to America, as problems of "The World". Trying to shut people down by name calling, isn't cool. Particularly uncool when you exhibit the same traits you're calling "Karen". It's clear that it's all connected. Also clear that folk who oppose it, need to stand together against it. Not fight each other.

Chris Trottier

@CloudyMrs@mastodon.scot You are being a concern troll. It's quite clear what my original post is in response to, and why.

The Karen replying to me specifically came into my mentions to shut *me* up because she believed her concern was the only one that mattered.

And frankly, she's wrong.

Here's further reading since you didn't bother reading the entire thread:

And nope, "Karen" applies here. Karens should stop being Karens.

@atomicpoet
You are so right and I hope that a lot of people open their eyes and are going to see that.

Toby

@atomicpoet It's important to understand that second-wave feminism, the whole Betty Friedan, "housewives are people too" concept hasn't gone away.

There's a lotta Karens out there, and a lot of 'em live in red counties.
