Oh, this seems pretty cool. Now that Elon has cracked down on the API and made tools like debirdify not work, @scafaria has created Whosum, a browser extension to help make your social graph more portable. It currently "records" your Twitter connections and then highlights those on Mastodon all in your browser (not on some server somewhere). whosum.com/

And he's got many more ideas that it fits into and enables. It's one of those many tools we've said were coming.

@shoq @mmasnick Thanks, Mike and Shoq. Yes, import/export was just submitted for app store review. That'll eventually evolve into sync (e.g. to a user's Github or G-drive). That in turn could power a static web app / PWA mobile app. Meanwhile, planning to add databasing of threads and support for other source networks. Combined with a PossumID (example: whosum.com/t/scafaria) for verified identity, we can add decentralized sharing etc. Open source, PRs welcome: github.com/positivesumnet/soci
Thanks!

@scafaria @shoq @mmasnick looks great!

The open source nature of it is not made clear on the whosum website, so I wasn’t sure if I could trust it until I came here to confirm. I suggest making your source code links more prominent.

@mmasnick It’s nice to see a company at ageism to their list, too.

@mmasnick @scafaria And without needing the API at all. That's the best part.

@mmasnick And what's particularly great about Vince's idea is that it's extensible for havesting other kinds of data (and connections). I think it will be very useful to many indieweb missions.

@scafaria @mmasnick looks like it's not using SSL, upon actually reading the error:

@mmasnick @scafaria Awesome tool, just found 25 Mastodon accounts of peeps I used to follow back on teh Twits. 😎 Love the ToS, as well! :owi: Thanks. 👍

@mmasnick @scafaria I highly recommend doing the auto-scroll. It’s like watching your social history roll before your very eyes.

@soundclamp @mmasnick @nedraggett Would love to. If anyone out there has experience with safari extensions and can share their experience (steps to take), it’ll help it happen faster. If not, no worries, and I’m sure we’ll get to it (I don’t have a Mac, so it wasn’t phase 1).

@mmasnick @scafaria I wrote a small client-side script that scanned the Follows page to retrieve @darth's 4,000 follows. It took a lot of scrolling tbh. It makes me appreciate Mastodon's account portability all the more.

@mattbrown@phpc.social is that available somewhere? I have about half of a journalism / news service here on fediverse; but i always forget to follow the people that are being boosted by people i follow. Having a "full graph" locally would be sweet.

@mattbrown @mmasnick @darth Hi Matt, our code is open source. If you're saying you've written a Mastodon network recorder to go along with the Twitter network recorder, a pull request or sharing the code snippet would be awesome!

@mmasnick @scafaria When I try that link, I get an error message: "An unhandled error has occurred." I'm sure it's a work in progress. Will keep checking back.
