that "TikTok ban law" is kind of amazing bc it says if you use a VPN to evade a ban on a website or app that's operated by "America's enemies," then you can be prosecuted I said this the other day, but in my 40 years, I don't think there's been a bigger chunk of the world that's regarded as "America's enemies." Like how many countries are "enemies" now? China, Russia, Belarus, North Korea, Iran, Venezuela, the South American countries that are friendly with Venezuela, Cuba, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia increasingly, Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia, Yemen, Libya, Mali, Niger, Syria, Turkey, Myanmar...

soft power is everything. convincing people that your dominance brings prosperity works a lot better than explicitly pointing a gun in their face. but now everyone sees what an absolute corrupt shithole this country is and getting worse each year. china's not perfect but it's a surer bet than the us at this point. |

Also, the countries the USA considers "enemies" is only going to grow as China's economic hegemony grows. Why would countries in southeast Asia, Africa or South America pick the US over China? You gonna invade the entire world?
