@rgod8855 incidentally, there's a great study on the subject confirming this https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/perspectives-on-politics/article/testing-theories-of-american-politics-elites-interest-groups-and-average-citizens/62327F513959D0A304D4893B382B992B @yogthos There's never been democracy in the United States. Those with money and power have always had a systematic advantage, and the electoral college system is not even approximately democratic. @simon_brooke pretty much, you can't have any actual democracy when money plays such a huge role in elections. And I'd argue that this further extends to things like media ownership as well. @yogthos Agree strongly. I feel that, in a democracy, all media organisations (including social media) MUST be consumer-owned co-operatives. That allows a broad range of views and prevents state control without allowing kleptocrat control. @simon_brooke I agree, media in particular must be publicly owned, and coperatives are a perfect vehicle for that. |
@yogthos Technically, it's acting more like a plutocracy. If the bulk of the elected officials only listen to people of wealth over the voting body, it is essentially governed by the self-interested persons of wealth instead of the good of the public.
