Low Quality Facts

It is insane how much better engagement is on Mastodon than on Twitter. On here, I've gained over 100 followers from a single post a few times already. On Twitter, my most popular tweet ever got 2 million impressions. And the analytics claim that earned me...... a whopping 2 new followers.

@lowqualityfacts something i've noticed on twitter, I (and maybe others) are not allowed to follow new accounts or only in proportion to those we unfollow. so you probably have fans over there who *can't* follow you, which sucks. i see accounts all the time i want to follow but can't unless i unfollow others. :(

@lowqualityfacts this is a healthy environment looking to engage with users.

I wonder what my 'depth' is... I never really cultivate my stuff (I likely should) and I feel like the engagement is super high comparatively.

I DO tend to get more 'likes' than 'boosts' however. It might be how I "Social network" though.. maybe

@mentallyalex @lowqualityfacts I think that's normal, I also get mostly likes! People give likes more easily than boosts, that's fine :)

Oh yeah - there isn't anything wrong, it was just a curious point of reference.

The second post (I saw you boosted <3) was inspired from this. My goals aren't to like.. trend or go viral. I just... want to do Mastodon, well? :ablobcatsweatsip:

@mentallyalex @lowqualityfacts hahah no worries. just be yourself, don't be toxic, and that's all. There's no mastodon police!

Well, at least not that I'm aware of.. :blobcatPuffyFearful:

@bazkie uhmmm... :ablobcatsweatsip:

Well, in this case we're safe. They'll use
@lowqualityfacts before we get snatched and we can escape.

Remember, you don't need to outrun the police - just your accomplices.

@lowqualityfacts all of which suggests that twitter will become less and less relevant as time goes on unless they change that.

@lowqualityfacts I've meant to tell you, I think you're posting facts of too good quality.

truthat

@lowqualityfacts Congrats on your continuing success here on Mastodon. Enjoying your content!

@lowqualityfacts
You fool. Haven't you considered that bot engagement is good, actually? Don't you realize that having artificially high user activity means the platform is more profitable and therefore better? You utter buffoon.

As I understand it both Twitter & Facebook juice their engagement numbers HEAVILY. Key diff (as it's been explained to me) is that Twitter gives (gave?) people info they could use to figure out it's bullshit, while Facebook actively hides that from you. (Josh Marshal from Talking Points Memo has been particularly vocal about that w.r.t. video.)

I.e. not that twitter's better as such, just that they bullshit more by omission than outright lies.

@lowqualityfacts I deleted my Twitter a long time ago, I always felt like I had road rage when using that app. Much better environment here.

@lowqualityfacts I really don't intend to trivialize your achievements, but I think that might be due to the fact that there are less users on Mastodon and overall less meme/funny accounts, which results in people following whatever funny account they can find. People on Twitter have all the options and are therefore a lot more picky and deliberate when choosing whom to follow, or at least that's my perception...

@lowqualityfacts I’m running a sale on one of my RPGs. My gross from Mastodon has been somewhere north of $1k. From Twitter, it’s somewhere around $0. It told me people were seeing it, but I guess people on Twitter don’t like fun. That’s the only reasonable explanation.

@lowqualityfacts as i keep saying, the tools are not necessarily the issue, it is the quality of the people using them

The Communists have won, and they'd better be instating universal healthcare, welfare programs, and taxing the oligarchic, plutocratic Fascists known as the "GOP" and "Elite class".

@lowqualityfacts after my account was deleted in early 2021 for a joke… i made a new account. This twitter account was used from early 2021 to mid-December of 2022.
At the time of deletion i had about 186 followers.
Since then i have made over 190 followers on mastodon, had better conversations, and a better, less negative/toxic experience.

Twitter is almost nothing but clapbacks and snappy criticisms. Its culture is nothing i miss, personally.

@lowqualityfacts

They did win I tell ya! If you look at everything except money, politics, too big to fail corps, laws, racism, misogyny, etc

@lowqualityfacts Twitter is like watching TV rather than being at a town hall or pub.
