Here’s a big fat reason: unlike Instagram, @pixelfed has no ads in search results.

So, when you say it's a "different kind of service" I guess I'd just like to know how it's different. I get that it's billed as a "photo sharing service" but what, in concrete terms, makes it that, rather than a microblogging service? I don't mean to put you on the spot, but if you can point me to that info I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

@atomicpoet @pixelfed I guess as more people use fediverse platforms, more dev will develop app for them. More app, more choices. Eventually better UX for the general public.
