@chrismessina No, "something went wrong and it's our fault" is the default setting for all Twitter features these days.

supernovae

@chrismessina So they're copying reddit.

Not a bad idea... It would be nice if mastodon had a creator tip jar thingy but not sure i want coins, keep it "real" currency somehow.

@supernovae
@chrismessina some folks use buymeacoffee or ko-fi who are less bad than Patreon, etc.

supernovae

@olavf @chrismessina yeah, just something easily integrated if people want to show the support..

social signals are weird.. would love creators to have something that shows they're finding support on their network of choice but we don't seem to want that.

That's where coins really shine on systems like reddit

@supernovae
@chrismessina once dollars get involved things get complicated. Setting up something to buy 'coins' from you'd end up with a website/space that integrates Stripe. Selling/trading/redeeming coins... I don't even know how one would set that up

supernovae

@olavf @chrismessina Wouldn't be hard to each instance to have their own strip and earn say 3% or some random number for being the marketplace and pay out 94% to creator after card fees... could be a way for instances to help cover costs and build a market but yeah.. lots of work :D

@supernovae @chrismessina I did some poking and not even talking about s/w we're talking a total clusterf.
And thinking about it, approaching anything that smacks of monetization with this crowd will likely not end well.

supernovae

@olavf @chrismessina monetization through invasive and privacy busting ads is much different than people paying for things they enjoy.

Olav

@chrismessina I wonder how well (if at all) that's working over on Post.

kkeller

@chrismessina they should have named it Twitter Cons instead

@chrismessina

Something went wrong with Coins! Still, we'd like you to buy some

@chrismessina I think they rolled it out to some users back on Feb. 22.

cryptoslate.com/some-twitter-u

That twitter.com/i/coins/ link still doesn’t work for me. It just redirects to the front page.

Chris Hisle

@chrismessina @mmasnick this is something that would have printed them money in 2021 and is just a waste of all three remaining engineers’ time now

@chrismessina I can just see the meeting "PayPal meets social media, meets block chain. We can't lose!"
It's going to be such a magnificent tire fire.
